Books Celebrating Uniqueness
Here's this month's collection of books that celebrate uniqueness and individuality. It's OK to be different. And it's definitely OK to join our club...
As always, we start off the books included in our packages followed by a few extras. Reviews for our books are added to the Previous Packages page.

Elmer by David McKee
I mean, we had to include it didn't we? Personally I find this classic somewhat harder to read (in terms of rhythm) than other, more modern books, yet it still captures imaginations. The story is just so special that who wouldn't want to read about a patchwork elephant. As with all of the books in our selection, the story stresses the importance of being oneself. Patchwork elephant or otherwise.
![I'm Special, I'm Me Unique](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/45b087_154d2569a72345dd9e8138f1371aa2c9~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_409,h_500,al_c,q_80,enc_auto/45b087_154d2569a72345dd9e8138f1371aa2c9~mv2.jpg)
I'm Special, I'm Me by Ann Meek and Sarah Massini
Suited for 4-7 year olds, we think, this story is a wonderful portrayal of a young boy who wants to fit in. Although I get a little bit annoyed with mothers often being the caring parent in picture books, and not the Dad, we really see a wonderful, loving relationship between the mum and son. It's wonderfully written and illustrated (we love Sarah Massini!) and should be read by all!
![Two Speckled Hens Unique](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/45b087_15004970d1b1413e99de287772c501bd~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_260,h_217,al_c,q_80,enc_auto/45b087_15004970d1b1413e99de287772c501bd~mv2.jpg)
Two Speckled Eggs by Jennifer K. Mann
Who brings an egg to a party? Potentially your new best friend? This is an endearing story of a girl who wants the best party and who gets originally annoyed that a rather strange classmate is invited. It turns out that this classmate is by far the nicest and most special. A sweet story about appreciating what's important in people.
![Terry Perkins and His Upside Down Frown Unique](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/45b087_31e335537f6c43f58ccfc42c026b1e9f~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_260,h_260,al_c,q_80,enc_auto/45b087_31e335537f6c43f58ccfc42c026b1e9f~mv2.jpg)
Terry Perkins and his Upside Down Frown by Felix Massie
We got sent this book from Frances Lincoln Publishers and found it original, funny and bold. A partner book, George Pearce and his Huge Massive Ears is just as intriguing and worth a read. I personally have big ears so this made my wife laugh. What I've learnt though is that I should be more like Terry Perkins and George Pearce and appreciate my unique qualities! Definitely worth a read for 2-5 years olds.
![Sidney Seagull Starts the Stomp Unique](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/45b087_3142c7dff22242838947298813455cdc~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_260,h_260,al_c,q_80,enc_auto/45b087_3142c7dff22242838947298813455cdc~mv2.jpg)
Sidney Seagull Starts the Stomp by Emma Pickles and Susannah Garrod
And here's another from one of our best discoveries this month! Emma and Susannah have now produced two wonderful, coastal-themed books about animals that are unique and special. In this, Sidney gets sidelined by his moody seagull peers but eventually wins them over. The rhythm and rhyming make the story fun and enjoyable read both for big and little ones! If you want to read about Emma's other book, Florence Fish, do check out our review on our Previous Package page!
