Books to Share With

At The Happy Book Club we try to be as helpful as humanly possible. We not only want you to love our books, activity suggestions, themes and charities, but we also want to give you more opportunities to explore our themes with your little one, should you so wish to.

Once again, we start with the books we've included and then, if you want to check out a few more books related to sharing, we have a few more below. Oh, and if you like what you see, do share ;)

Reviews for our chosen books are found here.

Sidney, Stella, and the Moon by Emma Yarlett

The First Slodge by Jeanne Willis and Jenni Desmond

It's Mine! by Tracey Corderoy and Caroline Pedler

Other books you should check out!

The Duckling Gets a Cookie!? by Mo Willems

The reason we didn't include this in our package (as is often the case) is that we search for books that are still amazing but not yet popular. Mo Willems has fully asserted himself as an incredibly successful children's picture book writer and illustrator, rendering this book un-choosable! We love his books. The pigeon in this series is highly expressive and relatable and is guaranteed to make you and your little ones smile! It just so happens that Mo also has a book out called 'Should I Share My Icecream'. Apparently he's a fan of sharing...

Hodge the Hedgehog by Amy Sparkes and Benji Davies

Unfortunately it's difficult to get hold of this book now, which is a shame as it's a book we would have loved to have shared with our subscribers. Benji Davies has really lifted off as an illustrator (check out On Sudden Hill and The Storm Whale!) and Amy Sparkes offers up her skill with such bouncy rhyming and story-telling. It's a fantastic partnership that is executed perfectly. And a wonderful story about sharing too.

Norris - The Bear Who Shared by Catherine Rayner

Catherine Rayner first caught our attention with Augustus and his Smile. Since then, her beautiful, award-winning illustrations grab our attention immediately. This is another highly pleasant offering about a bear who loves plorringes but ends up sharing them with others.

Share! by Anthea Simmons and Georgie Birkett

Now, I had a bit of a rant about books that have mothers (or indeed fathers) as the main character without any prior warning. Set aside the fact that these two little ones can't decide on what to share apart from hugs from their mum (why not the Dad?!) it is sweet story about family love that is still worth a read. Especially if you're a mum! Here's my previous blog post by the way: Where are all the Dads?

It's Mine! by Leio Lionni

20 years on this book is still relevant. Plenty of teaching resources to be found with this one too. It's a simple story, whose moral is obvious, but the simple Eric Carle-esk illustrations make it particularly engaging. Plus, kids love frogs.

Thank you again to all of our subscribers. Stay tuned for more sharing ideas and activities!
