Gladvertising
So today, if you followed our Twitter account today (@HappyBookClub), you will know how heroic I've been. On the HOTTEST day of the year, with about one million flyers (slight exaggeration) I drove around Norwich advertising our product with a smile. Or as I like to call it, Gladvertising.
Will it be worth it? Or will it all turn out badly? Will it be badvertising? Or is the idea of me tracking my progress by tweeting practically every place I visited just plain sad (Sadvertising)?. Or, and here's what I'm hoping for, will this method indeed become respected and fashionable (Radvertising)?
I'll stop now.
The day started at the wonderful Tots Town (@TotsTownUK). An awesome place that encourages imagination and creativity in the under 7s. Something, of course, we wholeheartedly encourage. Indeed all the places I dropped flyers off at are all worth a visit if you live in or close to Norwich and if you have children. And I'm not just saying that.
Here are some other places I visited (they all have hyperlinks if you like the look of them. Just click them):
I visited a few other places but it became harder to take photos when there were kids around. All in all, it was a pretty productive day. Had some cake, Listened to lots of Alt-J and the National. And, more importantly, found lots of new places to take our daughter.
If there is anything I can take away from this exploration - and I say that in the defiant way one calls something an exploration even when they only cover a 10 mile radius - it's that sometimes face-to-face advertising can be more of an investment that non-face-to-face advertising (technical term). Not only did I meet more people and potential marketing opportunities but I can also appreciate the value of personal interaction. For instance, after I dropped off some flyers at Dotty Pottery (lovely!) I chanced upon an organic food shop. Now if I was in a supermarket, would I have bought gluten-free gnocchi? Or organic passata? Probably not. But having someone talk to you or inform you or even guilt you, really can increase the chance of a sale!
So I guess, what I'm saying, in conclusion, to sum up, is that speaking to people is good.
And with that pearl of wisdom, I bid you adieu and point you once more to our August package! Look! There it is! Go get it!
(If I was with you in person, you'd definitely buy it!)
